Today, Denver is celebrating the 14th Annual National Lights on After School Day to raise awareness and advocate for quality after-school programs for children and youth. More than 40 years of research has consistently demonstrated after-school programs are a critical educational component in the lives of our students, and most importantly, after-school programs keep kids safe, inspire learning and help working families.
Tuesday, Mayor Michael Hancock, Superintendent Tom Boasberg, community leaders, students and parents gathered at the Noel Beacons Neighborhood Center to celebrate the impact of quality after-school programs. The Mayor called after-school programs a top priority for the city, and Superintendent Boasberg talked about how these programs help DPS achieve academic goals.
